Where to start? I guess with the "tourist" sites that most New Yorkers never get around to unless they have guests - and then we wonder why we had not gone before.
Statue of Liberty - One of America's most famous symbols for freedom located
at NY Harbor at Battery Park. Take the ferry to Liberty Island. Call to confirm

The ferry ride is a great way to see lower Manhattan on a beautiful day. It also stops at Ellis Island where you can see the first stop for new immigrants. There is a museum with donated items from immigrants' homeland and you can run a family tree at one of many computers set up for that purpose with either a family name or town from the "Old Country".
For those who want to experience history, head to the site of the former World Trade Center. Spend a few quiet moments by the gaping crater that is currently fenced in. There are still flowers and other memorials to commemorate our huge loss of Sept. 11, 2001.
While you are still downtown, head over to the South Street Seaport. (East River at the foot of Fulton Street) which is a marketplace with many shops, restaurants, and sightseeing cruises. (take subway 2,3,4, 5,A,C,J,M)
Empire State Building - 350 Fifth Avenue at 34 Street 212-736-3100 Visit the observatory at the top of this world renowned Art- Deco building.
If it is a nice day, head over to Chelsea Piers at 23 Street and the West Side Highway. You can walk along the water gazing at the beautiful boats docked there, hit some golf balls at the driving range, bowl, skate, hit balls in the batting cage, or have lunch at the marina.
Further uptown along the West Side Highway is the Intrepid Sea -Air- Space Museum. (pier 86 at 46 street) Experience an F-18 flight simulator. Explore the 900 foot long aircraft carrier and see how our troops live and work. Head back east and linger in the Times Square Area. Billboards flash everywhere, street vendors are hawking their wares, caricatures are being drawn, and lots of stores. Stop in front of the "Good Morning America" studio and peek in at the set.
Discount theatre tickets are available for same day performances at the TKTS booth on Broadway. Be prepared for long lines. While you are at Times Square, stop at ESPN Zone for a quick burger and try your hand at any number of interactive games such as air hockey (for the Canadians!!), shoot some hoops, race on a motorcycle simulated course, downhill ski and board, and play pinball and skee ball.
